Can we discuss this?

Last week our friend Kaityln, at our corporate office, wrote this phenomenal blog spotlighting slight lifestyle changes that we can implement in our daily routines for healthier skin. One of the topics discussed was to drink more water and why it’s important. Got Wrinkles? These Are the 4 Age-Defying Skincare Habits You Need to Make, Now!

Wrinkles. Can’t live with them, would love to live without them.

It’s true that aging is a part of life’s beautiful process, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we necessarily jump for joy every time a new dark spot or wrinkle pops up across our forehead. In fact, we’re far more likely to begrudgingly scour the internet for latest tips and tricks on how to help turn back the hands (unfortunately, that discovery hasn’t been made yet).

The good news is that prevention and science are on your side…and so are we! Over the years, people have stepped up their lifestyle and skincare game when comes to caring for and investing in their skin. So, if you are indeed that person currently searching for the latest tips and tricks for better-looking skin, keep on reading for Aloette’s 4 Ways to Create an Age-Defying Skincare Routine:

Drink Up!

Water. Aqua. H2O. No matter how you say it, adequate water consumption is one of the most important ways to support your complexion from the inside out. Basic biology (and our mothers) tell us that water makes up a HUGE percentage of our body—so it only makes sense that it’s largest organ requires a tall glass of hydration to keep it looking it’s best. Not to mention, the older you get the harder it can be for your skin to retain moisture. So, fill up your cup and help drink your way to a total body refresh with nature’s simplest “ingredient”.

Apply Sunscreen

We get it—its winter, its cold, and our skin is practically begging to soak up any ounce of colour it can get. But, on your quest for sun-kissed skin, don’t forget that sunscreen plays a vital role in both the long term and short-term appearance of your complexion. While a stroll in the sunshine—especially in the cooler months—may seem harmless enough, it is important to take care and arm your skin with broad spectrum protection to help prevent dark spots, fine lines and future sun damage. Prevention is truly the key to age-defying skincare and slathering on sunscreen daily is a helpful way to help protect your skin (yes, even indoors).

Invest in Anti-Aging Skincare

This is our Aloette specialty. One of the many beauties of skincare is that it completely customizable to your wants and needs. If you’re looking for a skincare routine that can help prevent or improve the look of an aging complexion (hence, why you probably clicked on this article), keep an eye out for skincare products that include peptides and hydrating key ingredients—like Hyaluronic Acid. Why the focus on these skincare ingredients? Because both of these ingredients work below the surface to help improve the skin’s moisture barrier and promote a firmer-looking complexion—making them a must-have in an age-defying skincare routine!

Try: The Aloette Ageless Science System. Made with a rejuvenating peptide, this two-step skincare system features an Ionic Energy Balance Mist and Active Energy Serum to help boost absorption, quench skin with hydration and help reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Moisturize

Are you starting to notice a trend here? Like we said, hydration is non-negotiable for anyone after a soft and smoother-looking complexion (I’m looking at you oily skin types). So, while you hydrate from the inside, make sure to also hydrate on the outside using a nourishing moisturizer. Start by applying a lightweight moisturizer during the day, then switch to a rich, preventative face cream at night. This will help ensure that your skin stays quenched underneath your makeup and nourished as you sleep.

KAITLYN COOK

What are some of your favorite beauty secrets? Remember before your head hits the pillow tonight to wash the day off your face. That’s right, even if you are not wearing makeup right now it’s important to wash, hydrate, and moisturize your face both morning and night.

5 THINGS YOU CAN DO TODAY TO PREVENT A BREAKOUT TOMORROW

So, you are a ‘good student’ of the skincare academy. You do all the right things. You wash your faces every morning and every evening. You have talked to your consultant or even your dermatologist and have determined what products best fit your skin type and feel confident when you wash your face. Suddenly you feel a little tinge of pain on your jawline. By the end of the day you have a raised red inflamed bump. I hear you. I hear the external sigh and internal “why today of all days” going through your head.

Here are some not so fun facts about acne.

Acne doesn’t care about age, race, or gender. Acne can be caused by a wide variety of things, but if acne is out of your norm then the culprit typically is overproduction of oil or…. hormones. Honestly, hormones can cause the overproduction of the oil in your skin in turn trapping hair follicles. Ekk! That makes the perfect breeding ground for pesky acne to ‘POP UP” pun intended.

Here are 5 tips to help prevent breakouts TODAY!

  1. DRINK MORE WATER

More water is always an excellent choice. Sugary beverages can produce excess oil that can cause acne, but dehydrated skin can cause excess oil production as well. So, put down your soda and coffee and grab a bottle of water. Need a little added flare to chug water all day? Add sliced lemons or mixed fruits to your water.

  • WASH YOUR PILLOWCASE AND SHEETS

Answer yourself this question, “Do you wash your hair every night”? Your hair can carry bacteria or dirt from the day, or just sweat. Though the dry shampoo you sprayed might have your hair smelling fabulous it might welcome bacteria to take up residence on your face.

  • GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

We all need to get our BEAUTY REST, but it’s so much more than that. When we sleep our bodies have a chance to fall back into rhythm that will help to decrease cortisol-releasing hormones.  There is that word again…HORMONES! They play such an important part in our overall health and that is why SELF-CARE IS NOT SELFISH!

  • CHILL OUT

Don’t stress. Easier said than done, but it is so important to find a way to destress not just to prevent acne, but for your overall wellbeing. When you are stressed your body can react similarly to when your body is us of it’s circadian rhythms, meaning elevated levels of cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can trigger breakouts because it can bind to your oil glands sending them into overdrive.

  • DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE

Seriously, wash your hands and don’t unnecessarily touch your face. There are so many reasons for this other than acne, but for this article we will keep our focus. Let’s start with the obvious. You look in the mirror. You see a glaring pimple.

“It’s huge.”

“Everyone is looking at it.”

“It’s like the size of a billboard. “

“I will just pop it and it won’t look so gross.”

“It won’t be so noticeable if I pop it.”

STOP! Put your pinchers down. Let’s make a few things clear. Nobody is looking at your tiny pimple. I hurt and that makes it feel bigger than it is. When you pop it, you are exposing am already inflamed area to new bacteria, from your fingers, as well spreading the bacteria possibly causing more acne.  When you “POP” your acne there is a chance that you will have scar.

So, when in doubt, wash your hands and do not pop your pimples. It will go away in a few days. Keep washing your face morning and night. Keep your hands off your face. Resting your hands on your cheek and chin will cause acne and blackheads to be worse because it will push bacteria and dirt deeper into your pores and then it will come out in unattractive ways.

Remember acne is a pain, but at some point, everyone encounters it. Keep your skin clean and you will get through it. If it becomes more than you can handle reach out to your skin care consultant or dermatologist for additional insight and assistance.
