Can we discuss this?

Last week our friend Kaityln, at our corporate office, wrote this phenomenal blog spotlighting slight lifestyle changes that we can implement in our daily routines for healthier skin. One of the topics discussed was to drink more water and why it’s important. I recently participated in a 31 day water challenge and I can tell you that it significantly improve your skin, your energy level, and so much more. Plus, now I really enjoy drinking water. Got Wrinkles? These Are the 4 Age-Defying Skincare Habits You Need to Make, Now!

Wrinkles. Can’t live with them, would love to live without them.

It’s true that aging is a part of life’s beautiful process, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we necessarily jump for joy every time a new dark spot or wrinkle pops up across our forehead. In fact, we’re far more likely to begrudgingly scour the internet for latest tips and tricks on how to help turn back the hands (unfortunately, that discovery hasn’t been made yet).

The good news is that prevention and science are on your side…and so are we! Over the years, people have stepped up their lifestyle and skincare game when comes to caring for and investing in their skin. So, if you are indeed that person currently searching for the latest tips and tricks for better-looking skin, keep on reading for Aloette’s 4 Ways to Create an Age-Defying Skincare Routine:

Drink Up!

Water. Aqua. H2O. No matter how you say it, adequate water consumption is one of the most important ways to support your complexion from the inside out. Basic biology (and our mothers) tell us that water makes up a HUGE percentage of our body—so it only makes sense that it’s largest organ requires a tall glass of hydration to keep it looking it’s best. Not to mention, the older you get the harder it can be for your skin to retain moisture. So, fill up your cup and help drink your way to a total body refresh with nature’s simplest “ingredient”.

Apply Sunscreen

We get it—its winter, its cold, and our skin is practically begging to soak up any ounce of colour it can get. But, on your quest for sun-kissed skin, don’t forget that sunscreen plays a vital role in both the long term and short-term appearance of your complexion. While a stroll in the sunshine—especially in the cooler months—may seem harmless enough, it is important to take care and arm your skin with broad spectrum protection to help prevent dark spots, fine lines and future sun damage. Prevention is truly the key to age-defying skincare and slathering on sunscreen daily is a helpful way to help protect your skin (yes, even indoors).

Invest in Anti-Aging Skincare

This is our Aloette specialty. One of the many beauties of skincare is that it completely customizable to your wants and needs. If you’re looking for a skincare routine that can help prevent or improve the look of an aging complexion (hence, why you probably clicked on this article), keep an eye out for skincare products that include peptides and hydrating key ingredients—like Hyaluronic Acid. Why the focus on these skincare ingredients? Because both of these ingredients work below the surface to help improve the skin’s moisture barrier and promote a firmer-looking complexion—making them a must-have in an age-defying skincare routine!

Try: The Aloette Ageless Science System. Made with a rejuvenating peptide, this two-step skincare system features an Ionic Energy Balance Mist and Active Energy Serum to help boost absorption, quench skin with hydration and help reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Are you starting to notice a trend here? Like we said, hydration is non-negotiable for anyone after a soft and smoother-looking complexion (I’m looking at you oily skin types). So, while you hydrate from the inside, make sure to also hydrate on the outside using a nourishing moisturizer. Start by applying a lightweight moisturizer during the day, then switch to a rich, preventative face cream at night. This will help ensure that your skin stays quenched underneath your makeup and nourished as you sleep.

What are some of your favorite beauty secrets? Remember before your head hits the pillow tonight to wash the day off your face. That’s right, even if you are not wearing makeup right now it’s important to wash, hydrate, and moisturize your face both morning and night.

Thank you for stopping by and don’t be shy. We welcome feedback and follow backs. 😉

Take action…

So, you are a ‘good student’ of the skincare academy. You do all the right things. You wash your faces every morning and every evening. You have talked to your consultant or even your dermatologist and have determined what products best fit your skin type and feel confident when you wash your face. Suddenly you feel a little tinge of pain on your jawline. By the end of the day you have a raised red inflamed bump. I hear you. I hear the external sigh and internal “why today of all days” going through your head.

Here are some not so fun facts about acne.

Acne doesn’t care about age, race, or gender. Acne can be caused by a wide variety of things, but if acne is out of your norm then the culprit typically is overproduction of oil or…. hormones. Honestly, hormones can cause the overproduction of the oil in your skin in turn trapping hair follicles. Ekk! That makes the perfect breeding ground for pesky acne to ‘POP UP” pun intended.

Here are 5 tips to help prevent breakouts TODAY!

More water is always an excellent choice. Sugary beverages can produce excess oil that can cause acne, but dehydrated skin can cause excess oil production as well. So, put down your soda and coffee and grab a bottle of water. Need a little added flare to chug water all day? Add sliced lemons or mixed fruits to your water.

Answer yourself this question, “Do you wash your hair every night”? Your hair can carry bacteria or dirt from the day, or just sweat. Though the dry shampoo you sprayed might have your hair smelling fabulous it might welcome bacteria to take up residence on your face.

We all need to get our BEAUTY REST, but it’s so much more than that. When we sleep our bodies have a chance to fall back into rhythm that will help to decrease cortisol-releasing hormones.  There is that word again…HORMONES! They play such an important part in our overall health and that is why SELF-CARE IS NOT SELFISH!

Don’t stress. Easier said than done, but it is so important to find a way to destress not just to prevent acne, but for your overall wellbeing. When you are stressed your body can react similarly to when your body is us of it’s circadian rhythms, meaning elevated levels of cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can trigger breakouts because it can bind to your oil glands sending them into overdrive.

Seriously, wash your hands and don’t unnecessarily touch your face. There are so many reasons for this other than acne, but for this article we will keep our focus. Let’s start with the obvious. You look in the mirror. You see a glaring pimple.

“It’s huge.”

“Everyone is looking at it.”

“It’s like the size of a billboard. “

“I will just pop it and it won’t look so gross.”

“It won’t be so noticeable if I pop it.”

STOP! Put your pinchers down. Let’s make a few things clear. Nobody is looking at your tiny pimple. I hurt and that makes it feel bigger than it is. When you pop it, you are exposing am already inflamed area to new bacteria, from your fingers, as well spreading the bacteria possibly causing more acne.  When you “POP” your acne there is a chance that you will have scar.

So, when in doubt, wash your hands and do not pop your pimples. It will go away in a few days. Keep washing your face morning and night. Keep your hands off your face. Resting your hands on your cheek and chin will cause acne and blackheads to be worse because it will push bacteria and dirt deeper into your pores and then it will come out in unattractive ways.

Remember acne is a pain, but at some point, everyone encounters it. Keep your skin clean and you will get through it. If it becomes more than you can handle reach out to your skin care consultant or dermatologist for additional insight and assistance.

The Green-eyed Monster

Do you feel yourself turning a few shades of green? It happens to everyone at some point.  Aloette MS & AR Central and She, Con author/creator, Mindy Boyd wrote a raw and intuitive article about how she felt the green-eyed monster sneaking in her life and how to handle it.  Scroll down to read Mindy’s full article.

Love Yourself, Love Her Too.

Turning away from envy, turning towards admiration, and becoming more confident.
“DID YOU SEE THAT?” “Did you see her?!” “Did you see what she was wearing?” “She’s so loud.” “She’s so full of herself.”  “She thinks her kids are perfect.” “She’s ridiculous.”  “Did she buy ANOTHER new car?”  “Why did they ask her to do that and not me?” “Why did she get the promotion, I’ve been here longer” “He’s way too cute to be with her.”  “I’m not jealous, I just don’t like her.”
Honey, check yourself.  Mindy, check yourself.  Raise a hand if you’ve ever had thoughts like this run through your mind.  Ok if your hands still down, this may not be the episode for you.  Come back when you’re ready to be honest with yourself.  Because you have.  We all have.  Jealousy, envy, holding a grudge, feeling resentful, judging…. These things come naturally to us, friends.  Some of us, a little bit, some of us a whole lot.
A few years ago, I would be happy to sit down with you and have an all out ‘life’s not fair, why are they being treated better, look what she wore’ conversation with you.  I’m not proud of it, but I have wasted a fair amount of my adult years being envious of things.  Not necessarily tangible things.  I could really care less about what kind of car someone drives or bag they carry, I love a nice handbag, but I mean I’m not going to covet your purse. but things like the way they were treated, the success they had, where they had leveled up to in life.  I often saw other people’s success as my failure.  In a constant competition with people who maybe didn’t even realize we were in a race.
Let me give you an example- I have been in sales with my company for almost 16 years now.  When I first started out, I remember going to a yearly awards ceremony in Atlanta and admiring and aspiring to be up on that stage amongst the top earner and recruiters in my company.  Seeing what THEY did and trying to beat it consumed me for the first few years of my business.  I got into the habit, though, instead of seeing it as motivation every time someone advanced faster or higher than I did- I saw it as competition.  And I was losing.  When I was losing, I would automatically start to make excuses why that was so- and often they had nothing to do with me working on me. (I was young y’all- we’re talking turn of the century Mindy here, not Mindy 2020) And that- my friends- is where jealousy would sneak in.  Spending time rolling around in all that I thought was unfair- “she’s given special treatment’ “I work just as hard, this isn’t fair’ “I deserve that too’ got me absolutely nowhere.
I always want to be a truth teller here.  If I’m not honest with you, why the heck am I even doing this thing?  I’m still in a business where I’m ranked every year- several categories, top five.  Here’s what I’ve learned for sure- being jealous of what someone has has never gotten me closer to where I aspire to be.  It’s only by working on myself, for myself, keeping my head down and focusing on what is going to grow my own team that I have ever leveled up.
I’m not here today to make anyone feel shame today, friends.  If so, I would be the first one hiding my face when I typed out those statements at the top.  What I do hope we can accomplish today is figuring out not just WHY we feel that way, but how we can flip the script in our heads from one of envy to one of more admiration and acceptance of others as well as more admiration and acceptance of ourselves!
I have two kids- Lain is 14, Luke is 11.  One thing I hear a lot of around my house is….” That’s not fair” Mostly from little brother- it’s not fair that she has a friend over, it’s not fair that she has a cell phone and I don’t.  it’s not fair that she stays up later than me…. I’m sure this sort of thing happens at your house too.  Before you feel too badly for Lukey trust me- he has friends over.  Just sometimes not at the same time as his sister.  He doesn’t have a cell yet because our kids don’t get phones until 6th grade and she stays up later because she’s older.  He knows all of this, and yet he’s always hollering that things aren’t fair.  I want to tell you today what I tell him– A fair is a place with tickets and rides, not life
Things won’t ever be fair and equal here on this earth, but instead of begrudging this- I’ve learned to see it as a blessing.  No, life’s not fair.  If it were, kids wouldn’t get cancer, puppies wouldn’t run away, and I would be able to eat gluten.  Life’s not fair, but it can still be good.  How can we learn to celebrate someone else accomplishing or being offered something before us? By realizing that our turn is coming, and it’s all in God’s timing, not ours.  It’s just not your turn yet.
If it’s meant for you- it will be.  If you’re not getting what you want- be sure you’re asking for it!   Sell yourself, sister.  If you see an opportunity for you to shine somewhere- turn on your light.  Maybe they can’t see you.  Maybe you’re keeping your greatness too dim!  Do you want a chance to be on the board of that club you’re involved in?  Throw your hat in the ring!  Do you want to move up in title at your office?  Go to your boss, tell her why you think you’d be great at a new position.  If you don’t, someone else will.
Here’s the deal- no matter what you think people may think of you- it’s highly likely they aren’t really thinking about you at all.  You have to show up and show out!
A book I’m reading right now by Gabrielle Bernstein put it like this- When you focus your thoughts and words on lack, judgement, and separation, you feel terrible.  Your words can affect your nervous system, your energy, and your entire life experience.  When you vibrate on high vibe, loving energy you will receive a high vibe, loving energy.
You cannot be hateful and grateful at the same time.  Try it.  You literally cannot feel hate and gratitude in the same breath.  Choose gratitude.  I’m not saying you should quote unquote just be grateful for what you have and settle.  I’m saying be grateful for whatever you’re experiencing right now because it is a steppingstone to where you want to be.  Be grateful for someone blazing a trail ahead of you and lighting the way.  Be grateful to have YOUR body. a body that houses your heartthat keeps you on this earth, that can move and transform into what you want it to feel liketo be like.  Not exactly like someone else but admire others.
Y’all, this gal at the gym the other day.  If I were not mid elliptical, I would have mowed her down trying to get her arm routine.  She had the most beautiful arms I had ever seen.  I wasn’t jealous of them at all.  I did not feel bad about my arms compared to her arms.  I know I could have amazing arms like hers- well maybe not just like hers- but I could up my arm game.  I just have to work hard.  She was working hard to get what she had. I can do it too.
Don’t envy someone if you could work hard and have what they have.  Be inspired instead.   Ask them how they did it- no one doing MORE than you will ever criticize you.  Remember that.  Everyone who has leveled up ahead of me in business- they are so generous in sharing what they got right and what they got wrong to help me grow.  I just had to be willing to ask and listen.
What about when someone appears to be doing better than you financially?
Be grateful for financial challenges while others seem to thrive.  You’re learning to be economical.  You’re learning to value the things you have- to reuse things.  To get creative and cook at home.  You’ll be so much stronger for going through this.  Be intentionally grateful for that.  You don’t know the struggle that the one who seems to have it all goes through behind closed doors.  They could have been surviving on rice and beans last year- they still could be!  They could be in debt up to their eyeballs or they could be financially free- either way, it’s none of your business really.  Your business is to better yourself.  Sweep your own floors, don’t worry about who they pay to sweep theirs.
Choosing to see joy in little moments throughout the day can put up a wall that won’t let envy sneak in.  I want you to try something this week.  When things get tough- if you are feeling left behind, forgotten, or lost, repeat this to yourself- I choose to feel joy instead of this.  Even if you’re not sure where you’ll muster that joy from.  You’ll figure it out, you’ll find it.  Think of three things you’re grateful for every morning to start your day in a place of thankfulness. And tell someone- every day this week- one person a day- something you admire about them.  When you throw good things out into the world, the world will return good things to you.  I’m confident.

Monday please be kind.

Tomorrow is MONDAY! The day that we choose if we will have a great week or a terrible week. Wow that is a lot resting on ONE DAY, right?! It’s true though.  The difference in a great Monday or a terrible Monday is based on our attitude.

So, in preparation of a new week, I present you with MASK MONDAY! First, pick out your favorite mask, headband, and wine.  Okay so you might not want to start with the wine first thing in the morning, bosses tend to frown on that, but you can always replace it with Hot Coco.

Now it’s time to unwind and prepare for your BEST WEEK EVER!

Here at the office, we are loving Aloette’s latest mask and scrub, Face Polish.

Every Monday needs a little polishing.

Say Yes!

Hello Blog World! We at Aloette South would like to share a story that is near and dear to our heart. This is the story of a fierce woman who bravely said, “Yes!”, to an opportunity over 15 years ago. This opportunity provided for her family as well as her community.

I will say yes to all good things that come my way.

Saying YES to a New

15 years ago, at 22 years old, I was working in a snowball stand. If you’re from anywhere other than the south, think Sno-Cone. It was my snowball stand, but a snowball stand just the same. Having already been married for two years, and having walked out of a “good” job that kept me in a constant state of anxiety, I had opened the stand to make a little money before I could figure out my next move career-wise.

See, I had never really had any huge career aspirations growing up. My friends all wanted to be doctors and teachers and nurses and whatnot, but I honestly cannot recall every having a solid vision on my future. So, there I sat selling sugar and ice for $1.25 in my little stand at the end of Locust Street near Highway 98.

One afternoon after working all day, I ran home, washed the sugar syrup off myself and attended a party at a friend’s house. It was one of those gather in the living room and pass around lipsticks and lotions parties. I went intent on purchasing a lip gloss with the cash I had earned that day, eating some snacks, and heading home. God had other plans. When I left that party that evening, I had filled out a little yellow sheet of paper and signed up to become and Aloette Beauty Consultant. I was mesmerized by the fast talking, funny, and very pregnant sales lady and she was emphatic that she needed help on her sales team with the new baby coming along. She nodded yes at me, I mirrored her nod, and wham bam thank ya ma’am I had a new gig.

For the next eight years, I was one of the top sales consultants in the number one franchise of my company in the United States. I earned incentives trips and a company car but most importantly through saying yes on a whim that night at that party I earned more than enough income to be able to live comfortably while growing our family and building a new home. Everything was great until it wasn’t.

One day several years into my career I got a phone call from the president of our company telling me that the franchise and warehouse I worked for was closed, effective immediately. Long story short, I went to bed with job security and woke up with a choice; find a new way to make money or purchase the territory formerly occupied by the closed franchise. I would become the leader of not only my personal sales team but everyone in the region as well as opening a shipping facility, hiring employees, and making the switch from being an independent consultant to a full-fledged business owner. Me! The girl from the snowball stand that went to a makeup party on a whim.

I wish I could say I said yes immediately. Wouldn’t that be cool? If I said yes with no hesitation. That’s not the case, though. Instead I said no. Repeatedly, for about 3-4 months. I said no, but I will help. So, I started holding local trainings for displaced beauty consultants. I gave the corporate headquarters my cell phone number to give out to customers who needed help. I ran my beauty consultant business still as well as doing all of the customer service and leadership responsibilities of a franchise president until one day I was like “Duh, Mindy. You’re doing the job. Say yes to the opportunity.”

Sitting in my office today after 7 years as the president of not one but now two Aloette Cosmetics franchises, I’m reflecting on all the times I could have said no, and where my life would be as a result. It wouldn’t be here, working across the driveway from my house in my very own warehouse affectionately known as the “Beauty Barn.”  We aren’t the number one franchise in the United States, yet, but we are well in our way. Saying yes meant building a warehouse, running a shipping facility, hiring employees and a full-time job for my husband as well. It was a pretty good yes.

I make it a habit to say yes more now. Yes can be scary, but no can be tragic. I’d rather look back and say “I tried” than to look back with regret.

Repeat after me, “I will say yes to all things that come my way.”

Can we talk about blue light?

Hey sis, let’s get real about our screen time… Now is the time to protect the largest organ we have.  Yes, SPF is great while we are in the sun, but did you know that the more we are in front of the screen the more our skin is in danger.  Life is crazy sometimes and we need our dual computer screens, iPads, iPhones, and other devices to get our work done, but help your skin out. We love our apps and let’s face it, most of us spend more than an hour on social media. Question that? Check your screen-time on your phone. Be prepared to be shocked.   Did you know that sun-damage is no longer the number ONE factor for premature aging? What about your vision? Maybe it’s not as sharp as it once was?  Can you guess what it is? Possibly, Blue Light Damage.

Double Cleansing and Detoxing My Skin

We are pleased to have Mindy Boyd, author and creator of, as a guest writer for our site. Mindy has provided us with a full review of Aloette’s latest product launch along with a few tips. Scroll down and tell us what you think.

It’s time for a late night confession. Are you ready?

I’ve been in the beauty biz for 15 years now and I have never had this much fun washing my face. Literally, it’s fun and so satisfying lately to be seeing improvements in my skin even after using a good skincare regimen for over a decade now. So, what’s changed, you ask? Two things.

What the heck is “double cleansing?” Well, it’s cleansing your skin. Twice. Once with an oil, and then with a gentle cleanser. I’ve used Aloette’s Essential Cleansing Oil for years but have always just followed it with a toner. Not anymore. Last month, Ryan Christopher, a skincare expert who works closely with my brand posted a quick video about double cleansing the right way and I was so inspired. I have struggled with hormonal breakouts for years and I really think switching it up has made a world of difference in decongesting my pores and controlling inflammation that would pop up under the surface of my skin.

Step 1: Aloette’s Essential Cleansing Oil

You start with an oil, cleanse your skin for 60 seconds- yup, a whole minute, massaging the skin on your face and neck with a non-synthetic oil cleanser to remove makeup and break up oil buildup on the surface of your skin. After that, you’ll follow with a good, lathering cleanser to remove any residue and deep clean your pores. 60 seconds with this one too. It’s self-care, y’all. You’re worth it.

This brings me to the second thing that has made my skincare routine more satisfying and just plain fun!

Back in January I received a little vial of powder from the Aloette home office with instructions to wash my face with it and report back the results. You read that right- a powder…. to wash my face. I sprinkled a little in my palm, mixed it with a little water and rubbed my palms together to find the most luxurious foaming cleanser I had ever used! Seriously. Sprinkle, mix, foam- amazing. My skin has never felt so clean. It’s brighter, more even in tone, and those breakouts are nearly nonexistent.

City Detox contains enzymes to gently exfoliate and clay to detox and purge pores. This gets rid of not only makeup residue but dust, dirt, pollen, and other environmental pollutants that gather on your skin each day. The best part is, it only takes just a little bit. This bottle of cleanser will last you a WHILE so it’s an incredible value. More bang for your buck.

Step 2: City Detox

I am so excited that City Detox is now available to launch to the public! I’ve loved this cleanser for months and now so can you! City Detox launches on August 21st and it’s sure to be a big seller. You can swipe one up on my website found under the My Faves tab and add an Essential Cleansing Oil to your cart as well.

Have questions about the products or want to share your experience with City Detox if you already have some? I’d LOVE to hear from you! Leave a comment. Like the content? Feel free to click ‘share’ and send it out into your world!

*Aloette has been one of my favorite things for years! I love it so much that I bought a franchise of the company. If you place an order from my site, I’ll receive a small commission. Just letting you know!
