I had the pleasure of interviewing one of Aloette MS & AR Central’s NEWEST consultants, Kristen Johnson. Kristen is a stay at home mom of FOUR! Kristen has just completed her third home show and is setting Aloette goals!

When did you join Aloette? 2/22/2020 under my sister, Macey Church.

Why did you want to join Aloette? I wanted to better myself and to be a role model to my 4 kids.

What would you like to see happen in 2020? I would like to earn enough to upgrade our family vehicle to a brand new suburban to haul around my basketball team lol.

What would you say your greatest motivation to make Aloette work for you? My greatest motivation is my beautiful kids and my extremely hard working husband.

What makes you feel confident? Aloette makes me feel confident. It gives me the clear and smooth skin while the makeup gives me the flawless look to put my best face forward every day! Also, my amazing husband who has all the confidence in the world in me!

How do you rate personal success? I rate success by how happy I am and how happy my family is. If we are all happy, then I am the most successful person in the world!

More than makeup and face masks.

I was 27 years old and working in a doctor’s office when I discovered Aloette. How could I have ever imagined how much my life would change.  I was introduced to women who were not jealous of me or my abilities but who embraced them. I found a company that celebrated my successes and encouraged me through my deficiencies and I grew as a woman of confidence and influence. Over my 33 years in Aloette I was afforded the opportunity to live out my wildest dreams and highest goals. I traveled the world, made amazing friends and ultimately came to learn about and to love women from all walks of life.  At 58 years of age, my Aloette journey empowered me to launch out into an unknown territory, helping women coming out of the struggle and darkness of addiction and I opened a faith-based restoration home for women called The Harbor Home.  Many of the same skills that I learned as an Aloette leader are now used to empower women who find themselves in the deepest struggles of life.  I am so thankful that I still have my Aloette business to enjoy and that gives me the extra income I need to continue to enjoy some of the extras of life.

I joined Aloette in 1987 because I wanted a new sofa for my living room, to earn a free beauty kit and get a lifetime discount. What I received was so much more and will remain in me and will work through me until my last breath. Now at 62 years of age, I am so overjoyed to see young women who continue to embrace the Aloette experience and who continue to inspire, empower and encourage women to rise up and be the very best that God created them to be! Many people told me when I started that “it wouldn’t last…that these kinds of businesses never do”…33 years later Aloette is still going strong and still offers the best opportunity for women to work on their own terms, reaching to make their dreams come true. Aren’t I glad I didn’t listen to the naysayers but listed to my heart instead?

More than extra income.

I can work my business from anywhere as long as I have a good wifi connection.

Thinking of joining Aloette? Aloette offers more than an amazing discount, training, and income. Aloette provides a community for men and women from all backgrounds to come together. We interviewed wife, boy mama, and Aloette’s newest consultant about why she joined our Aloette community. See what Macey had to say about her first 2 weeks in business.

Macey, her hubby Ryan, and one year old Gabriel.

Megan: When did you first start using Aloette?

Macey: I started using Aloette in 2010. I went to a party and have been hooked ever since.

Megan: What is your favorite product?

Macey: That’s a toss-up between Gentle foaming cleanser or the essential cleansing oil!

Megan: What made you want to become a consultant?

Macey:  I love the products and have a long time. I’m suggesting them to people and telling people about them why not make an income while doing that!

Megan: When did you join the company?

Macey: My launch party was 2/9/2020 and had my first party a week later.

Megan: What is your favorite thing about being a consultant, so far?

Macey: Honestly, I’m a stay at home mom and needed an outlet I needed something that felt like I was doing for myself!! Aloette gives me that brain stimulation I feel like I need. Even after one party it’s making me use my brain which I haven’t had to do since I stopped working back in May. Preparing for the parties is so fun for me and feeling like I’m going to contribute again to our income is a major plus.

The Green-eyed Monster

Do you feel yourself turning a few shades of green? It happens to everyone at some point.  Aloette MS & AR Central and She, Con author/creator, Mindy Boyd wrote a raw and intuitive article about how she felt the green-eyed monster sneaking in her life and how to handle it.  Scroll down to read Mindy’s full article.

Love Yourself, Love Her Too.

Turning away from envy, turning towards admiration, and becoming more confident.
“DID YOU SEE THAT?” “Did you see her?!” “Did you see what she was wearing?” “She’s so loud.” “She’s so full of herself.”  “She thinks her kids are perfect.” “She’s ridiculous.”  “Did she buy ANOTHER new car?”  “Why did they ask her to do that and not me?” “Why did she get the promotion, I’ve been here longer” “He’s way too cute to be with her.”  “I’m not jealous, I just don’t like her.”
Honey, check yourself.  Mindy, check yourself.  Raise a hand if you’ve ever had thoughts like this run through your mind.  Ok if your hands still down, this may not be the episode for you.  Come back when you’re ready to be honest with yourself.  Because you have.  We all have.  Jealousy, envy, holding a grudge, feeling resentful, judging…. These things come naturally to us, friends.  Some of us, a little bit, some of us a whole lot.
A few years ago, I would be happy to sit down with you and have an all out ‘life’s not fair, why are they being treated better, look what she wore’ conversation with you.  I’m not proud of it, but I have wasted a fair amount of my adult years being envious of things.  Not necessarily tangible things.  I could really care less about what kind of car someone drives or bag they carry, I love a nice handbag, but I mean I’m not going to covet your purse. but things like the way they were treated, the success they had, where they had leveled up to in life.  I often saw other people’s success as my failure.  In a constant competition with people who maybe didn’t even realize we were in a race.
Let me give you an example- I have been in sales with my company for almost 16 years now.  When I first started out, I remember going to a yearly awards ceremony in Atlanta and admiring and aspiring to be up on that stage amongst the top earner and recruiters in my company.  Seeing what THEY did and trying to beat it consumed me for the first few years of my business.  I got into the habit, though, instead of seeing it as motivation every time someone advanced faster or higher than I did- I saw it as competition.  And I was losing.  When I was losing, I would automatically start to make excuses why that was so- and often they had nothing to do with me working on me. (I was young y’all- we’re talking turn of the century Mindy here, not Mindy 2020) And that- my friends- is where jealousy would sneak in.  Spending time rolling around in all that I thought was unfair- “she’s given special treatment’ “I work just as hard, this isn’t fair’ “I deserve that too’ got me absolutely nowhere.
I always want to be a truth teller here.  If I’m not honest with you, why the heck am I even doing this thing?  I’m still in a business where I’m ranked every year- several categories, top five.  Here’s what I’ve learned for sure- being jealous of what someone has has never gotten me closer to where I aspire to be.  It’s only by working on myself, for myself, keeping my head down and focusing on what is going to grow my own team that I have ever leveled up.
I’m not here today to make anyone feel shame today, friends.  If so, I would be the first one hiding my face when I typed out those statements at the top.  What I do hope we can accomplish today is figuring out not just WHY we feel that way, but how we can flip the script in our heads from one of envy to one of more admiration and acceptance of others as well as more admiration and acceptance of ourselves!
I have two kids- Lain is 14, Luke is 11.  One thing I hear a lot of around my house is….” That’s not fair” Mostly from little brother- it’s not fair that she has a friend over, it’s not fair that she has a cell phone and I don’t.  it’s not fair that she stays up later than me…. I’m sure this sort of thing happens at your house too.  Before you feel too badly for Lukey trust me- he has friends over.  Just sometimes not at the same time as his sister.  He doesn’t have a cell yet because our kids don’t get phones until 6th grade and she stays up later because she’s older.  He knows all of this, and yet he’s always hollering that things aren’t fair.  I want to tell you today what I tell him– A fair is a place with tickets and rides, not life
Things won’t ever be fair and equal here on this earth, but instead of begrudging this- I’ve learned to see it as a blessing.  No, life’s not fair.  If it were, kids wouldn’t get cancer, puppies wouldn’t run away, and I would be able to eat gluten.  Life’s not fair, but it can still be good.  How can we learn to celebrate someone else accomplishing or being offered something before us? By realizing that our turn is coming, and it’s all in God’s timing, not ours.  It’s just not your turn yet.
If it’s meant for you- it will be.  If you’re not getting what you want- be sure you’re asking for it!   Sell yourself, sister.  If you see an opportunity for you to shine somewhere- turn on your light.  Maybe they can’t see you.  Maybe you’re keeping your greatness too dim!  Do you want a chance to be on the board of that club you’re involved in?  Throw your hat in the ring!  Do you want to move up in title at your office?  Go to your boss, tell her why you think you’d be great at a new position.  If you don’t, someone else will.
Here’s the deal- no matter what you think people may think of you- it’s highly likely they aren’t really thinking about you at all.  You have to show up and show out!
A book I’m reading right now by Gabrielle Bernstein put it like this- When you focus your thoughts and words on lack, judgement, and separation, you feel terrible.  Your words can affect your nervous system, your energy, and your entire life experience.  When you vibrate on high vibe, loving energy you will receive a high vibe, loving energy.
You cannot be hateful and grateful at the same time.  Try it.  You literally cannot feel hate and gratitude in the same breath.  Choose gratitude.  I’m not saying you should quote unquote just be grateful for what you have and settle.  I’m saying be grateful for whatever you’re experiencing right now because it is a steppingstone to where you want to be.  Be grateful for someone blazing a trail ahead of you and lighting the way.  Be grateful to have YOUR body. a body that houses your heartthat keeps you on this earth, that can move and transform into what you want it to feel liketo be like.  Not exactly like someone else but admire others.
Y’all, this gal at the gym the other day.  If I were not mid elliptical, I would have mowed her down trying to get her arm routine.  She had the most beautiful arms I had ever seen.  I wasn’t jealous of them at all.  I did not feel bad about my arms compared to her arms.  I know I could have amazing arms like hers- well maybe not just like hers- but I could up my arm game.  I just have to work hard.  She was working hard to get what she had. I can do it too.
Don’t envy someone if you could work hard and have what they have.  Be inspired instead.   Ask them how they did it- no one doing MORE than you will ever criticize you.  Remember that.  Everyone who has leveled up ahead of me in business- they are so generous in sharing what they got right and what they got wrong to help me grow.  I just had to be willing to ask and listen.
What about when someone appears to be doing better than you financially?
Be grateful for financial challenges while others seem to thrive.  You’re learning to be economical.  You’re learning to value the things you have- to reuse things.  To get creative and cook at home.  You’ll be so much stronger for going through this.  Be intentionally grateful for that.  You don’t know the struggle that the one who seems to have it all goes through behind closed doors.  They could have been surviving on rice and beans last year- they still could be!  They could be in debt up to their eyeballs or they could be financially free- either way, it’s none of your business really.  Your business is to better yourself.  Sweep your own floors, don’t worry about who they pay to sweep theirs.
Choosing to see joy in little moments throughout the day can put up a wall that won’t let envy sneak in.  I want you to try something this week.  When things get tough- if you are feeling left behind, forgotten, or lost, repeat this to yourself- I choose to feel joy instead of this.  Even if you’re not sure where you’ll muster that joy from.  You’ll figure it out, you’ll find it.  Think of three things you’re grateful for every morning to start your day in a place of thankfulness. And tell someone- every day this week- one person a day- something you admire about them.  When you throw good things out into the world, the world will return good things to you.  I’m confident.

Have suitcase, will travel!

Okay so you are getting ready to head out of town, but what to pack? Aloette ladies know how to pack. There is nothing worse than lugging around an overpacked suitcase for a 2-day adventure or under packing for a weeklong trip. No worries, we have you covered. Before packing here are a couple key questions you must ask yourself before you grab your suitcase.

  1. Where are you going?
  2. How long will you be gone?
  3. What does your itinerary look like?
At some-point, we’ve all sat on a suitcase.

So, let’s ‘unpack’ each of these questions. See what I did there? We know that was corny, but you laughed. Where are you going? You do not want to pack stilettos for a rugged trip to the mountains/beach, right? Also, it is important to use your weather app and check the temperature for the area you are traveling. A few years back Aloette went to BANFF in Canada. Truly one of the coolest trips. I remember packing my suitcase with cute summer dresses and outfits because we were traveling in July. The night before we left a friend of mine checked the weather in Banff. I was going to FREEZE at night. I quickly emptied my suitcase and packed laying clothes and a heavy jacket. I swapped my strappy sandals for closed in shoes.  I had the BEST TIME because I was prepared when I arrived.

Always pack 2-3 EXTRA outfits.  Things happen. Coffee spills…sometimes wine happens. Don’t forget to pack an extra outfit or two for mishaps.  If your trip is more than 4 days, you might need to pack a carry-on or weekender bag along with your medium-large suitcase. Take advantage of your bonus bag. Pack your jammers and an extra outfit. If you are flying, you will be happy you have an overnight bag on your trip. These come in handy if you have any adventures such as luggage misplacement or a little extra airport time. Things happen, it’s all part of the adventure.

Map out your attire based on your itinerary. Print it out, write your outfit ideas beside each activity. Once you map out your outfits you can effectively pack and plan for an organized trip. Place your itinerary on top of your clothes before you close your suitcase. You will need the itinerary for your tip and now it has your outfits planned out and ready to tackle the day.  Shoes take up so much space in my suitcase and they are heavy. I like to look at my outfits and see how many I can pair with 2-3 pairs of shoes.

Bonus packing must-haves are slippers, lighted mirror, and a blanket.  Slippers are great when you need to walk around your hotel room. Lighted mirrors are MUST-HAVES because most hotels do not have great lighting.  Yes, your hotel room has bedding, but sometimes you just need a travel blankly.

I hope this helps your next trip go smoothly.  Aloette will be traveling ABROAD to Ireland this year so stay tuned for TRAVEL TIPS FROM ACROSS THE POND.

Hey girl, nice brows!

We’ve all done it. Picture it, think Sophia Petrillo as you read this, you are using your best magnifying mirror. You have your tweezers in hand.  You start PLUCKING. It all starts like, “I am just going to get that ONE HAIR.” Next thing you know, your left brow is almost GONE! Yea, we got you girl! We understand the sinking filling you get when you are thinking of all the ways to fill that brow back in.  Before you start sculpting again take a minute to read below. We have tips and tricks to help.

Photo cred. :

Did you know that the arch and shape of your brows can alter your face shape?

The trick to the PERFECT BROW is to understand your ‘Facial Shape’. There are FIVE common facial shapes.

  • OVAL
  • LONG

Need help deciding what shape best matches your face? Contact your local beauty consultant for a consultation.

Okay so now that you know your facial shape, you are ready to sculpt your brows.  Well, almost ready. Before you grab your mirror and tweezers, keep two main things in mind.

  1. You may not have an ideal brow line, naturally.
  2. You can use tweezers to style your brows to better fit your face.

OVAL FACES tend to benefit from a slight arch, as shown above.

ROUND FACES tend to benefit from angles. See the photo above for an example. Adding angles to your brows can help to overcome the roundness of your face by giving the appearance of added facial length.

LONG FACES tend to benefit from longer brows with a gentle arch.

SQUARE FACES look best with THICK BROWS. No arches or gentle arches look best on square faces.

HEART FACES look best with soft lines or a rounded brow. Go easy on your arches.

Now that you have sculpted your brows…

It’s time to add DEFINITION. You can do this a couple different ways, but our favorite is to use OH WOW, BROW!

Before you say that you cannot do this, KNOW THAT YOU CAN!

First, use an applicator to apply wax to the entire brow. Make sure you brush it with the grain of your hair. Then, use a small angled liner or brow brush to apply the powder. There are three shades to this kit: blond, brunette, and red.

5 Reasons you should keep your brushes clean

  1. Dead Skin Cells sister! When you use your brushes daily, they can pick up dead skin cells. Now you might be the girl who only applies makeup occasionally, imagine the dust that is collecting in your powder brush. Using anti-bacterial soap and cleansers, you are helping to prevent the spread of bacteria and dirt from your brushes to your face.
  2. Makeup Application! It’s all fun and games until you realize your makeup looks cakey or uneven, it’s time to clean those brushes! Clean brushes help your makeup apply smoothly and with the intended pigmentation.
  3. PINK EYE! Keep those eye brushes clean. Never share your brushes. Sharing cosmetics and brushes can spread bacteria quickly.
  4. Enlarged PORES! As explained in #2, dirty brushes help to push bacteria and dirt deeper in your pores. Oh, by the way, dirty brushes expose your skin to stress from free radicals. As we all know, free radicals cause the breakdown of collagen and elastins.  YUP, DIRTY BRUSHES=AGING!
  5. Just like your toothbrush, you need soft bristles for makeup application. When you allow your makeup to build up in your brushes it can eventually feel like you are scratching your face with every application. This causes irritation and as explained in #1, the spread of BACTERIA.
